Peanut Butter Gummies Homemade Dog Treats

 Finish up leftover broth and make the pups a special treat for peanut butter lovers (2 birds, 1 stone!). These peanut butter gummies are so easy & unique!

It’s been a bit difficult around here to do it all and I’m sure I’m not the only one who experiences issues with struggling to keep up. My POC (partner in crime) isn’t much of a helper around the house which is why he used to bring in a housekeeper to help me out. But she’s gone and he’s taken up going to the gym and performing in a folk duo so his efforts to help keep the house running have pretty much ceased entirely. I have learned that if I don’t want a house littered with water bottles it’s my job to pick them up. And that takes time.

In general, I’m proud of being a positive person but staying positive has been a bit difficult, so I’ve decided to take some time off from my life and I’m flying away and visiting my parents for 2 weeks soon. Huzzah! Just buying the plane ticket has really done positive things for my attitude. Messes can’t bother me from several hundred miles away and life always feels better with imminent plans to visit IKEA, right? 🙂 And I’ve also decided that things will be easier on myself if I make sure to make the time to do the things I enjoy just in general, a lesson I seemingly have to keep re-learning. I’m trying to make time to read my book, cook for the joy of it and play games. All me things. All fun things. And in taking this time sometimes some pretty neat things occur like how I wound up whipping up these surprising pet treats… peanut butter gummies.

I must admit this whole recipe came to be when I saw these too cute paw print silicone molds on Amazon. I impulse bought them and then tried to figure out how to use them. Since I’m full on making gummies for myself and Rob like crazy, it seemed like a nice thing to make some for the pups…

My first attempt I didn’t use peanut butter, just straight homemade chicken bone broth and the treats were gobbled down like crazy. My next batch using a little bit of store-bought chicken broth didn’t go quite as well and only 1 of my 2 dogs will eat store bought broth gummies. With the addition of the peanut butter, though, everybody can’t get enough of these strange but seemingly addictive dog gummy treats!

The recipe I have created below is made to fill 1 of the heart paw print silicone molds with just a little bit of extra that I typically allow to set up in the measuring cup. You absolutely don’t have to have a mold to make these and, since I’m cheap, I can totally getwhy you might not want to spend the dough on something like this. Instead of molding you can pour the gummy mixture into a casserole dish and cut into bite-size pieces once set!

Peanut Butter Gummies Homemade Dog Treats

This recipe came from a need to use up that little bit of broth left behind after cooking dinner. The addition of peanut butter makes these treats even the pickiest of eaters will love. This recipe uses powdered peanut butter, and I strongly recommend cooking with it because it’s far less messy, but feel free to use PB from the jar if it’s what you have on hand. Add more gelatin for firmer gummies if your dogs prefer. These should stay good refrigerated for 7-10 days (if they last that long!)

• 3/4 cup of broth (my pups prefer chicken but like beef, too)
• 2 tablespoons of beef gelatin (or 2 packets of Knox Gelatin)
• 1/4 cup of powdered peanut butter
• cute paw silicone pan (optional)

1. Place broth in a small saucepan and place on medium heat. Watch the pot and when the broth begins to steam (but not yet bubble) remove from heat.
2. Whisk in 2 tablespoons or packets of gelatin for several minutes until all clumps have dissolved. The mixture will be foamy.
3. Add in 1/4 cup of peanut butter and whisk until fully incorporated (and if using traditional peanut butter, fully melted).
4. Pour the mixture into a casserole dish or a measuring cup with a good spout, carefully transferring the mixture to your mold.
5. Allow to set at least an hour in the fridge, or until firm.
6. Unmold your treats, and cut into bite-size pieces if necessary, and store in the refrigerator until ready to use (left out they will dry up and quickly mold).

Because all dogs seem to be a little bit different about the level of gummy they are comfortable eating feel free to half the recipe and test to see if your pup likes this as mine do. You can always add another 1-2 tablespoons or packets of gelatin to firm them up further if your pups aren’t down with the jiggle.
